NCDC Rules Out Ebola in Two Suspected Adamawa Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that laboratory tests have ruled out Ebola Virus Disease in two suspected cases identified in Yola, Adamawa State.

NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris said in a statement at the weekend that the two individuals, who had presented with symptoms suggestive of the disease, tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency said the index case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed case in Nigeria. Six primary contacts of that index case are expected to leave the isolation centre today, while 62 contacts linked to the confirmed case remain under monitoring.

The all-clear will come as a relief to health authorities in the North-East, where surveillance had been stepped up after the suspects were isolated. The NCDC urged the public to maintain hygiene precautions and report symptoms early, stressing that the response system remains on alert.
