The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) spent the weekend trading accusations after an attack on the convoy of the ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto, Manir Muhammad Dan'iya.
Dan'iya alleged that personnel of the Marshal and Community Guard — state-owned security outfits — attacked his convoy. The claim has not been independently verified, and the Sokoto State Government has not accepted responsibility.
In a separate incident reported by Legit.ng, APC supporters were attacked and a vehicle burnt ahead of a top northern governor's rally, underscoring rising political tension across the region with elections drawing closer.
Both parties have called on security agencies to investigate. Civil society groups are urging the police to guarantee a level playing field and warning that unchecked convoy attacks could escalate into wider violence. Civique News will follow the investigations.
