FG Agrees Six-Month ₦70,000 Monthly Transport Intervention From November
The government–labour agreement also covers allowance arrears, but payroll eligibility and actual disbursement remain separate implementation questions.

The Federal Government and Nigeria Labour Congress reached an agreement on a ₦70,000 monthly transport intervention at a conciliation meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, 27 October. Channels Television and Premium Times reported the commitment, which is due to run for six months from November 2026.
Labour Minister Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi chaired the meeting and NLC President Joe Ajaero led the labour delegation, according to the ministry statement quoted by Channels. The statement describes the payment as applying across all levels.
That phrase should not be treated as proof that every private-sector, state or local-government employee automatically qualifies. The beneficiary scope, payroll instructions and precise payment dates require implementation documentation that was not obtained for this report.
The agreement also provides for peculiar-allowance arrears effective from 1 May 2026, payable in three equal monthly instalments starting in November. Vanguard reports a separate commitment to clear 19 months of outstanding health-worker allowances over three months beginning in December.
Both sides agreed to constitute a minimum-wage negotiation committee immediately, but the reported agreement did not settle the effective date of a new minimum wage. The temporary transport intervention must therefore not be confused with an enacted minimum-wage increase.
Labour negotiator Gbenga Olowoyo discussed the agreement in an ARISE interview, welcoming it after negotiations lasting more than six hours. His acknowledgment corroborates the announced commitment, not proof that money has reached workers.
Update, 30 October: the earlier brief omitted the conciliation details and other elements of the agreement. Six consecutive months beginning in November would run through April 2027. No disbursement, beneficiary total or overall cost is claimed here.
