The US State Department on Friday approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors and related equipment to Ukraine, valued at $2.1 billion.
Ukraine will pay with donations from Canada, Germany and Norway through the JUMPSTART programme and national funds financed by the European Union's Ukraine Support Loan. No US funds are involved, according to the statement. The principal contractor is Lockheed Martin.
Separately, the 21st Canada–EU summit closed in Montreal with the launch of an "Alliance for the Future", and Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is working toward becoming the EU's first "associate member".
