Trump Concedes Democrats Did "a Good Job", Blames GOP and Iran War for Midterm Losses
The President says he accepts the results and will "probably" get along with Democrats, but reminds Congress he still holds the veto.

President Donald Trump has accepted the Democrats' sweeping midterm victory, which handed them control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, while blaming Republican candidates and the Iran war for his party's losses.
**Accepting the result** Trump told The New York Times he was "absolutely willing to accept" the results and said the Democrats had done "a good job", the BBC reported. On Wednesday he suggested he would "get along, probably" with the new Democratic majorities, but reminded reporters that he still has veto power, according to CBC.
**Blame game** On Truth Social, Trump derided Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who lost to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, saying Abbott would not have lost if he "hadn't become a RINO". He insisted Republicans "would have won IN A LANDSLIDE" had he been on the ballot. The Washington Post reported that Trump and his aides also pointed to oil prices. CBC and The Hindu reported that Trump agreed with Vice President JD Vance that the Iran war contributed to the defeat, calling the claim "largely true", while AP reported he continued to defend the war itself.
**What it means** With Congress in Democratic hands from January, Trump faces divided government for the remainder of his term: his legislative agenda will need bipartisan deals, and Democrats will gain investigative and budget powers. Trump's stated fallback is the presidential veto.
