INEC Flags 268 Voter Records Over Suspected AI-Generated Photos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged 268 voter records over suspected AI-generated photographs and other irregularities as it begins cleaning up the national register ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to reports on Monday.
INEC said it is cleaning up the affected records. Reports also say the commission uncovered abuse of the special registration facility meant for persons with disabilities.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Nigeria Data Protection Commission to launch an independent investigation into the AI-generated images.
The development comes weeks before INEC's planned release of the final register. Civique News will update as the commission publishes more details.
