Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy says two oil tankers, including a supertanker, suffered explosions and were stopped after hitting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz within the past hours.
In a statement carried by the IRGC's official outlet Sepah News, the navy said the tankers were transiting an "unauthorised" route in the strait. The United Kingdom has issued a fresh shipping alert for the waterway, through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil passes.
US President Donald Trump, speaking at a Halloween event, said he was "in no hurry" with Iran but again predicted the conflict would end soon, warning Tehran to make a deal. Al Jazeera reports the IRGC confirmed both tankers caught fire after the explosions.
Shipping and energy markets are watching closely: any sustained disruption in Hormuz would ripple through global oil prices, including pump prices in Nigeria. Civique News is following developments.
