Bulgaria's incumbent President Iliana Iotova has won Sunday's presidential runoff, according to exit polls announced on Bulgarian National TV.
Pollster Alpha Research projects Iotova securing 52.5 per cent of the vote, ahead of former caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov on 43.4 per cent. The remaining 4.1 per cent of voters chose the "I don't support anyone" option.
The result, if confirmed by official counts, gives Iotova a fresh mandate at a time when Bulgaria — the European Union's poorest member state — faces continuing political instability and pressure over its economy and its position on the war in Ukraine.
Official results are expected in the coming days. Civique News will update this story as the count is certified.
